St Lawrence, West Wycombe

St Lawrence.

St Lawrence stands  on a Chiltern hill high above West Wycombe with its superb golden ball that can be seen for many miles around. The present day building is made up of three seperate structures, a Saxon Church, a Norman tower and an eighteenth century box building. All three were joined together by Sir Francis Dashwood in 1763 at a cost of around £6000. Inspiration for the knave came from the 3rd centuary AD ruins at Palmyra of the Sun Temple. At this time, the church was considered one of the most beautiful in the country. St Lawrence stands in the centre of an Iron Age hill fort of which the history can be traced back over 4000 years and maybe further.

Our first ghost is that of a nun who is seen walking in the oldest part of the graveyard alongside the Church although in several visits we have not seen or sensed this apparition. The graveyard has a nice calm feel to it  but you do get the feeling that you are being watched.

Above are two views of the church, firstly from the main gate and secondly of the tower and golden ball. Just infront of the church is a bench dedicated to Violet. A mist has been seen here and if this is Violet then we wish her well, so before sitting down best let Violet know. An orb was photographed in this area and many more have been photographed in the graveyard.

A view from the mausaleum towards the church where the nun is said to walk.

In the area where the photo was taken we found a number of human bones on the surface. These were collected and handed in to the church.

Also in this area we took a photo of three strange figures. Ianterestingly the figures are either migits or their legs are below ground because when I was pictured in the same spot my head came to just below the window in the mausaleum wall, I am 6ft. However we have discovered that this part of the graveyard has been back filled so now the ground is 3 feet higher.

The figure in the brown coat looks like a 12 year old girl and infront of her looks like a young boy wearing a dark hat and grey jacket, the figure behind the girl is strangely dressed and is wearing what appears to be a turban style headdress. The long afgan style coat seems to be open at the front, simular to the style coats the figures in the Hellfire caves below liked to wear.

Note that the figure in the turban looks like it is wearing white gloves and possibly a medalian around the neck. The photo was taken at about 5:15 in the evening where three of us were present and Fiona took the photo, no one else was in the graveyard at the time. Also in this area there are several graves dated  from the 1700s .

Fi standing in the same area as the figures. Fi is 5 foot 3 inches and is up against the wall, note her head height against the figures in the photos above. The grave stone is to Rebecca and William  O'Harsley who died in the late 1700s. Our medium picked up on their names in the Hellfire caves below, several hours before finding the gravestone.

Again Fi but now several paces forward, note how much taller she looks and a distance photo of the same area. Rebecca and Williams' gravestone is on the left of the picture near to the mauseleum.

Below are some pictures of the mauseleum
